Dirty vs clean bulking
If the calories and the nutrition were the same, the amount of muscle mass put should theoretically be the same. It should not matter whether the calories are coming from olive oil and baked potatoes or from fries.
But one thing that should be taken into account here is adherence. Adherence to stick to the dirty bulking will require extraordinary discipline as junk foods cause cravings. These cravings lead to deviations from our diet which will lead to either more fat gain or less muscle gains.
On the other hand, eating clean while bulking will keep us satiated all day and thus we won't feel the need to eat more food. Thus, if I'm able to hit my macros I won't be hungry and will be sure that I'm gaining minimal fats. But again comes a problem. We're human. We all have cravings. If I'm supposed to eat clean all day all night even during my bulk, it is going to be a mental stress for me.
Solution:
I will hit my macros for protein. This way l'll be sure that I'm gaining muscles.I'll consume the minimum fat requirements from good fat sources.I'll spare some calories for my 'dirty' food or my treat food.I'll fill the rest of my calories with carb sources which will be coming from clean sources and will help in satiety. Thus, I won't have to eat clean every time and won't have to worry about going all dirty.
