How important is mobility work?

I’m 37 and never prioritised mobility, and now I’m feeling it!
Stretching before weight lifting can be important, but its necessity and effectiveness can vary based on individual preferences and specific circumstances. Here are some key points to consider:
Benefits of Stretching Before Weight Lifting
Increased Flexibility: Stretching can improve the range of motion in your joints, which may enhance your lifting performance. Injury Prevention: Proper stretching can help reduce the risk of injuries by preparing the muscles and tendons for the stresses of lifting. Enhanced Blood Flow: Dynamic stretching increases blood flow to the muscles, which can improve performance and reduce soreness. Mental Preparation: Stretching can serve as a mental cue to prepare for the workout, helping you focus on your form and technique.
Types of Stretching
Dynamic Stretching: Recommended before weight lifting. This involves controlled movements that improve flexibility and range of motion, such as leg swings or arm circles. Static Stretching: Often not recommended before lifting, as it may temporarily weaken muscle strength. This type involves holding a stretch for an extended period and is better suited for post-workout.
While stretching can be beneficial, the focus should be on dynamic stretching before lifting. It’s also important to listen to your body and adjust your warm-up routine based on how you feel and the specific exercises you plan to perform. Overall, a proper warm-up that includes dynamic movements is crucial for optimizing performance and minimizing injury risk.
